Paddling up the Johnstone Strait in Vancouver, B.C.

So much has happened since Matt and I got married last month, that I haven't had a chance to blog about any personal events, including our wedding and recent trip to Vancouver Island. I'm still waiting for our wedding photos before I blog about our special day, but I wanted to share a few photos of our trip.

Everyone I talk to raves about Vancouver Island, but until we went I had no idea how awesome it was. We spent part of our trip in Tofino (My new favorite place) and the rest of trip kayaking up the Johnstone Strait with Spirit of the West Kayaking Tours. This was my first multi-day paddling trip, and it was incredible.

We camped on Cracroft Island across from the Robson Bight, and spent 4 days paddling in one the most serene, perfect places that I have ever been.  We were fortunate enough to see more wildlife than I could image. The water was crystal clear, and we saw tons of intertidal life including sea urchins that were almost 10 inches in diameter! (Side note: Did you know sea urchins can live to be 100 years old?!?!?!?) We also saw orca whales, sea lions, seals, dolphins, porpoises, bears and the list goes on. It really was the trip of a lifetime. Everyone we met on the trip was incredible, and I feel so lucky that we were able to be a part of it.

I was the winner of the 2014 Spirit of the West Photo Contest with this photograph.
